Dr. Roger Edwards

Roger Kern Norval Edwards was born and grew up in Trinidad (the most southerly island in the Caribbean).  He is the son of Kern and Rosita Edwards and brother of Kernita Bailey and Karl Edwards.

He is an ordained minister of the gospel who began his ministry in 1994 and has worked in Tobago and in various parts of Trinidad.  In 2002, he was privileged to spend one year in Australia, serving Wallsend SDA in New South Wales as a volunteer youth pastor.  This experience radically transformed his life and ministry.

From 2007 – 2011 he was given the opportunity to serve as Youth Director of the South Caribbean Conference of SDA.  He also has the humbling distinction of being the only person in the South Caribbean Conference of SDA to serve as the President of the Ministerial Association of the same Conference for three terms (2011 – 2013, 2015 – 2017 and 2019 - 2021).  Currently he is the assigned pastor of the D’Abadie District, which includes D’Abadie and Maloney Seventh-day Adventist Churches.

Believing that ministry needs pastors who are not only qualified academically in programs that are theological in nature, he added to his BA in Theology (1994) from Andrews University, a Diploma in Human Resource Management (2005) from Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies, a MBA in General Management (2010) from Henley Management College in the United Kingdom and a Doctor in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University, Alabama, USA.  These other areas of study have greatly enhanced his ability in the areas of administration and management - areas in which God has gifted him.  As such, his two major research projects so far are:

  1. “The effects of Incentives / Rewards on Motivation and Performance on Volunteers within the Youth Department of a Faith-based Organization” and
  2. “A Correlational Study of Volunteer Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment and Intention to Remain”

Both research projects are instructive to Faith-based Organizations and other Non-Governmental Organizations in appropriately managing their volunteers and members.  He has written several articles for the Priorities magazine and continues to be a regular contributor to the same magazine.

In 2006, he married the beautiful, brilliant and talented Dr. Avanelle Joseph and together they are proud parents of Zacharie Kern Ethan Edwards who was born in 2009.

Dr. Roger Edwards is a lover of sports, particularly cricket and table tennis. He also enjoys reading, developing marketing and strategic plans for various projects and institutions, and is a firm believer in making ministry relevant.  As such, he led out in the development of the concept and implementation of the “Making A Difference” (MAD) service camp - ministry designed primarily for youth to positively impact the community for Jesus by engaging in humanitarian activities.  Another major enterprise of his was the first Youth Congress (August 2011) in the Caribbean Union that was initiated and hosted by a Conference in which all levels (General Conference, Inter-American Division, Caribbean Union and the various Conferences within the aforementioned Union) of the Church within the Youth Department were present.

God has utilized Pastor Edwards in leading over a thousand (1000) persons to Jesus.
